I am currently a member of faculty in the Information Engineering and Computer
Science Department (DISI), at the University
of
Trento. I am Director of dbTrento (the Databases and Information Management Group of DISI), General Chair for VLDB 2013 (the premier international conference on very large databases), Vice-Chair of DKE (the Data and Knowledge Engineering Research Area of Trento Rise, bringing together more than 85 faculty, research staff, and student members), and Coordinator of DKM (the Data And Knowledge Management Research Area in DISI). I am a founding member of the Event
Processing
Technical
Society, and have been a member of
the IBM Academy of Technology
Study on Event Processing. I serve on the
editorial boards and program committees of several international
journals and conferences in the areas of data management and data
mining. I have received three Best Paper awards in international
conferences (PERCOM 2012, ICDE 2010, ADAPTIVE 2009), and authored five
US Patents, three of which are part of commercial systems. Before joining the University of Trento, I worked at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center,
and at the University of California at
Riverside. I have also held visiting researcher positions at the National University of Singapore, Microsoft Research, and the
IBM Almaden Research Center. I received my BSc degree from the National Technical
University of Athens, Greece, and then received
the MSc and PhD degrees from the University
of
Toronto, Canada. Trivium: my Erdos Number is 3.
