COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS
Academic year 2016-2017
(1st year International MSc. degree in Telecommunications Engineering, EIT Master entry point - 6 credits)
COURSE
CONTENTS AND OBJECTIVES
Communication
Systems aims at teaching to the students the fundamental concepts
about digital communication systems, meaning with this term the set of
components (transmitters, encoders, receivers, decoders etc.) that are
devoted at transferring information from source to destination,
including the channel. Wired, optical and wireless communication
systems will be considered in details with a particular focus on
topics like channel modelling, efficient detection and equalization,
multi-user transmission and particular signalling formats targeted at
counteracting channel impairments.
The course will be articulated into two parts: the first part (33 hours) by the official lecturer (Prof. Claudio Sacchi) and the second part (15 hours) by the visiting lecturer (Prof. Luc Vandendorpe of UCL, Belgium).
The
exam will consist of a project part (small SIMULINK projects) related
to the topics dealt by Prof. Sacchi, an oral part completing the
project part and, finally, a written "open book" test related to the
visiting course part.
