Renato Lo Cigno

As of September 2019 I have moved to the University of Brescia
at the Department of Information Engineering (DII)

I'm building a research group in networks also there, and I'm working to have my personal pages too, but it's a slow process and it is still only an embryo.
I normally come to the University of Trento every week. To meet, me send an e-mail to organize place and time.

Welcome in any case to my UniTN home page, which will be slowly phased out as my activity moves to Brescia, but will be active and up to date for all the activities I still carry out in Trento, specially teaching and exams. For instance, this year the Italian Networking Workshop (INW2020) comes back in Trentino, organized by FBK/Create-net.

In Trento I proudly founded the Advanced Networks Systems (ANS) research group. With the ANS group we coordinated a very interesting and innovative multi-disciplinary H2020 Project on Alternative Internets: netCommons: Network Infrastructure as a Commons, and we had a lot of fun working together on many topics, from vehicular networks to topology management and centrality based routing ... and much more.

Formerly I have founded the Networking Research Program which ended its original mission in 2010.

I was born in Ivrea, Italy, in 1963. I graduated from Politecnico di Torino (Italy) with a master degree in Electronic Engineering in July 1988. I worked in Politecnico, in the Telecommunication Networks Group (yes, you are right, networks are my research area!!) of the Electronics deparment until 2002. From june 1998 to february 1999 I spent a sabbatical period as a visiting scholar at the Computer Science Department of UCLA, where I worked with Mario Gerla and his Network Research Lab (yes, once again networks!!).

My research interests and in analysis, evaluation and design of telecommunications and computer networks, spanning from optical networks, to wireless, to overlays such as P2P an Anonymous Networks.

Apart from research and teaching, at the University of Trento I held the position of Rector Delegate for Informatics and Telecommunication services, controlling policies and strategies for the development and implementation of ICT-based services at the service of the University life from 2009 until I moved to Brescia.

I am co-author of about 200 papers published in international journals and presented in leading international conferences, you can browse through my publications: many are available in PDF together with some slides.

I am senior member of IEEE and ACM, I served as Area Editor for Computer Networks (Elsevier), and I have been (and currently are) in the Organizing or TPC committees of leading conferences, from Infocom to Mobysis, Globecom, ICC, VNC, MSWiM, LANMAN and more.

I am currently chair of the Steering Commettee of WONS, a small, focused, annual, IFIP and IEEE sponsored workshop on wireless, on-demand networks and systems, and I'm co-organizing MedComNet 2020 as TPC co-Chair with Falko Dressler. Recently, I organized IEEE VNC 2017 as TPC co-chair.

Do you like the painting in my office? The one with humans in search? Yes? then go to the home page of the painter Luisa Tartaglia to see more or visit her on-line shop to have one. Never been in my office? Well visit her all the same, it's an experience.
