Service Oriented Computing: Research Network

Workshop at the University of Trento

October 17-18, 2002 - Trento, Italy

Workshop Aims and Objectives

Service Oriented Computing (SOC) is considered as the computing paradigm that will shape the web in the near future. The web in the present form underlines the presentation of data in a human readable format (with all the necessary graphical and aesthetical issues). SOC, on the other hand, aims at presenting the information in a machine readable format, thus enabling retrieval, access, composition and, in general, automatic interaction of systems. Some of the main characteristics of SOC are standardization of representations, interoperability of different standards, uniform data accessibility.

This workshop will bring together European researchers interested in service oriented computing and related areas, with the aim of putting the foundations for a research network. The network is expected to promote collaboration between several groups working in this field, to exploit synergies trough research projects, to organize other workshops and meetings in the future and to foster submission of proposals for founding at European level.

The Workshop is by invitation only.

Workshop Organization

The Workshop is organised and sponsored by the "Knowledge Management and Distributed Information System" research group in the Department of Information and Communication Technology of the University of Trento .

  • Venue

The workshop will be at the Centro Congressi Panorama in Trento. This conference center has both meeting rooms and hotel rooms for the participants. We have booked rooms for all the participants in this location (accomodation expenses will be covered by the University of Trento).
Please follow this link for information on how to reach Trento and a map of the city.
The Centro Congressi Panorama is located on the hill of Sardagna, very close to the town. The most convenient way to reach Sardagna is by cable car (Funivia, in Italian). Item 15 in the map marks the location of the cable car (labeled as "Partenza Funivia per Centro Congressi Panorama"). Selecting this item will enlarge the area around the location.
If you need to contact the Centro Congressi Panorama (workshop location and hotel), please call 0461 261671 (if you call from within Italy). From abroad add the intl code for Italy (+39). The email address is: panorama@operauni.tn.it
