Project details
Project astract Epicentro by Pirelli Broadband Solutions is the service creation software platform for the connected home designed to be open, modular and expandable, allowing broadband service providers to support an ever growing suite of software features and to host applications in a managed and upgradeable runtime environment. This framework is integrated in consumer products (e.g. home gateways) to widely deliver a new generation multimedia experience, by supporting a variety of TV distribution platforms such as Satellite, Digital Terrestrial, IPTV and Internet TV, and integrating the facility of a personal multimedia hub. Pirelli Broadband Solutions develops these products with a vision of making them a platform for service creation through their open architecture, and the catalysts of cooperation between fixed and mobile services and between managed and unmanaged multimedia applications. In this context, the variety of technologies and the system integration stimulate the creation of added value solutions for end customers based on Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology to expand the wireless sensing and networking capabilities of Home Gateways. The objective of the project is to manage the WSN from Epicentro in order to fully exploit the advantages of a pervasive and distributed monitoring in homeland security scenarios. The heterogeneous sensing of WSN enables many applications oriented to the real-time monitoring of remote areas. The development of some demonstrators will provide possible solutions to the need for efficient remote management and support, and the end user's need for interaction with value added applications that pivot around the connected home devices.<br/>
