Project details

Project astract In the recent past, NEC has gained significant experience in the detection of anomalies in telephone call patterns. The anomaly detection system currently implemented allows an offline analysis of Call Data Records (CDRs). Ongoing research activity aims at enhancing the system in order to achieve real time processing, improve detection capabilities and allow classification of threats.

In order to achieve such ambitious tasks, testing and validation techniques become essential to meet the reliability and robustness features required to carrier grade systems.

Goal of this collaboration is to build a realistic traffic generator able to capture all the fundamental traffic metrics that have an impact on the anomaly detection analysis carried out in NLE.

The project builds on the knowledge already acquired during past collaborations in the same area. In particular, the experience gained in statistical characterization of call patterns will serve as basis for the development of a reliable and realistic traffic generator.

In order to achieve the above sketched goals, the following steps have been identified:

* DISI will provide the software for running statistical analysis of CDRs.
* NLE will run analysis on the available real traffic traces and transfer results to DISI, making sure that the confidentiality requirements with respect to the sources of the traffic trace are always met.
* After completing the traffic analysis, DISI will propose a model for the traffic generator and NLE will provide feedback about suitability to NLE purpuses.
* DISI will implement the traffic generator.
