Optimizing Data Transport over Next Generation Wireless Networks: Architectures and Solutions
OPT-WINE DIT-PRJ-08-048
Status NOT active project
DISI role Coordinator
Project type Education and Mobility Project
Dimension International
Acquisition date 2008-09-30
Start date 2008-01-01
End date 2009-12-31
Project details
Project astract The objective of the proposal is to define, develop and validate architectures and solutions for optimizing data transfer over wireless networks. Existing wireless networks (IEEE 802.11a/b/g, GPRS/UMTS, WiMAX) and next generation 4G wireless systems (3G LTE, Mobile WiMAX) will be considered.
The activity will be aimed at R&D on the proposed topic, but the acquired know-how will be employed for higher education purposes, as joint courses will be defined on "TCP over wireless" at the M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels included within the degrees in Trento (Telecommunications Engineering, International ICT School) and Tokyo.
In this framework, the main reason for collaboration between Trento and Tokyo Univ of Tech. is related to the complementary expertise of the two involved research groups, as Prof. Tsuboi's research is related to transport protocols (TCP modifications for wireless networks), while Prof. Granelli's is focused on cross-layering - specifically targeting interaction between transport and MAC layers of the protocol stack. Both groups have outstanding publication records on the topic.
Keywords wireless networks, performance optimization
Fundings 5000 €
