Project details
Project astract The pioneering educational program called Trentino High Apprenticeship Project has been realized through an agreement reached by the National Workers Union/Agency and some interested bodies such as the local Association of Enterprises, Chamber of Commerce, University and local Government. The program aims at defining an educational career that would combine apprenticeship with university studies. This program is meant to offer young people with a high school certificate as well as workers willing to improve their education, the opportunity to further their studies to university level while obtaining practical working experience from companies for which they work as apprentices during a four year program. At the end of the proposed curricula they attain the same first level University degree in Computer Science, usually obtained by normal student in a three year period. To this end a mixed educational scheme has been agreed between University and involved enterprises. Part of the educational curriculum is carried out at the University, while part of know-how skills is acquired through participation in specific activities within the company/enterprise structures. These activities (mainly projects) are discussed and agreed upon on an annual basis by the contracting company, the university professors and an academic tutor. These groups of persons have the responsibility to evaluate the congruency of the project with the academic program chosen. Supervision of the training activities in the enterprises will be done by a team of university and enterprises tutors. Final assessment will be done at the University by professors of the respective courses. This organization is meant to guarantee some flexibility through free choice of complementary courses and definition of individual projects through annual agreements between the University and enterprises. At the same time, the quality of the educational program would be safeguarded by a uniform evaluation system, identical to that applied to traditional university students. All the students will take the same final exams and will be assessed using the same criteria. On completion, the students will obtain the three-year university degree certificate in Computer Science - a title that gives access to membership to the computer Science Junior Engineers Registry section.<br/> For the academic year 2004-2005 a total of 25 Apprenticeship students have been involved in the project
